Georg Friedrich Bernhard Riemann (1826 -1866) was a German mathematician who developed the concept of non-Euclidean geometries. None other than Albert Einstein later developed much of his theory of relativity and space curvature on the basis of "Riemannian geometry." Riemann made other brilliant mathematical contributions, but he was also a student of theology and Biblical Hebrew. The son of a Lutheran minister, he started out studying for the ministry, until his mathematical genius diverted his studies into that field. He attempted on at least one occasion to combine the two by writing what he intended as a mathematical proof of the truth of the book of Genesis.
