William Kirby (1759-1850) was an English clergyman and entomologist. He wrote many devotional and many scientific works, including a four-volume Introduction to Entomology. He is best known, however, for his authorship of two of the famous Bridgewater Treatises, Volumes X and XI, with the title: On the Power and Wisdom of God and His Goodness as Manifested in the Creation of Animals, with a shorter subtitle: On the History, Habits and Instincts of Animals. He also wrote extensively on flood geology, even including a very relevant exposition of II Peter 3:3-7.
